Northern Cardinal - The Scarlet Beauty

The Northern Cardinal (Cardinalis cardinalis) gets its name from the vibrant red plumage similar to the to the red caps and robes worn by the Catholic cardinals.
The striking red plumage comes rom eating foods rich in carotenoids, such as berries, wild grapes and apples.
The red cardinal is one of the most recognizable birds in the US and is the official state bird of seven states.
