Spotted Hyena - Not foolish nor a scavenger

Spotted Hyena (Crocuta crocuta)
Though ignored as foolish and dull because of it's giggling laugh, the hyenas are amazingly intelligent and in experiments with complex problem solving have even out performed chimpanzees
Studies have also shown that spotted hyenas can actually count the members in their social clan
In addition they are among the best hunters and 60-90% of what they eat comes from their own kills, in spite of their reputation as scavengers
Females have complex genitalia similar to males
